We are now Incorporated
In pursuit or having columns built at our entrances the neighborhood was required to form an Association and incorporate. Since Susan Davenport and Carolyn Miller were spearheading the column project we had to take the reins and
appoint themselves Secretary and Chairman repsectively. Yes, we will have to annual dues and yes, we will have to have an anual meeting - but we want to keep this loose and low-key. VIEW INCORPORATION DOCUMENT
Dues (not yet decided on) will be used to cover the following:
| - |
Insurance for columns will run about $653 a year - liability required by City and replacement cost. |
| - |
Banking fees per year $36 |
| - |
Once columns are built we would like to have a landscape company maintain them. We want simple, simple low maintenance solutions. Quotes will be obtained and the fees assessed. ??? |
| - |
Website fees are about $60 a year |
| - |
We will have to file taxes as well so there may some sort of fee there, but we hope to have that donated. |
| - |
We are required to send out printed notices, so there may be some copying charges. ??? |
| - |
Neighborhood directory - $90-$100 for printing annually |
| |
|
| |
We would like to keep household assessment fees around the $30-40 figure. There are 114 households and not all homes are occupied 100% of the time. Without the landscaping costs -- the above fees mentioned = $15 per household, just FYI.
As it is setup, all checks require 2 signatures for protection. Once we get going we will attempt to keep all information on the website - bank balances, statements, minutes for annual meeting, agendas, etc. |
Blockparty 2010 a HUGE Success!
We were delighted to host over 300 folks this year. We also went a tad over budget... not bad though. For cost breakdown and other blockparty details >> click here. All in all the response was overwhelmingly positive. If you have any constructive criticism or suggestions for next year please let Carolyn Miller know so a note can be made for the Blockparty committee.
Welcome to the Barlar Family!
While we were sorry to see Hamp and Whiting Mostellar leave, we are thrilled to a have fun new family in the neighborhood! Keith and Neeke (pronounced Nikki) and their two children, Savannah (5th grade) and Graham (1st grade) who attend St. Ignatius. WELCOME.
NEIGHBORS with DOGS:
I received the following from a neighbor - please take this as a gentle reminder:
We seem to have a real problem in the neighborhood with folks letting their dogs run free. I have no issue with someone’s dog getting out of their fence by their own abilities but it appears we have folks that just open the door and let them loose. My garbage was rooted through this morning and I have 2 very young children and I am concerned about their safety. I am a dog lover but I really believe for their safety and for other people’s safety and convenience the dogs should be kept inside or in a fenced yard. They should also be kept inside at night so they don’t keep folks from sleeping. I am not a big believer in neighborhood rules or committees and would rather rely on folks being responsible good neighbors. -- ThanK You
The McKay Break-in on Thursday, Dec. 3
I sent an eamil to the neighborhood alerting them to the fact that Peri McKay on Springwood East walked in to her home at 2:30 and found a black man (who was wearing an Alabama hoodie and tan pants and a hat)
in her home! He jumped out of a window and she chased him off. You go, girl!!! Anyway, this individual was noted by Nene Tisher and also by David Bains. David was alerted and called the police as he followed the man in his car (prior to the break-in) - he described the man and observed him opening a mailbox while on the phone with the police. I do not know if the police have caught the theif or not...
Libby Fillingim called and requested a close patrol for the next two weeks.
IF you experience something similar or are robbed do not call 911 (routes through the county and everywhere) call the 4th Precinct directly at 438-7021 you may in fact want to program that number into your cell phone now.
It was also passed along that the would-be thief cut the McKay's phone and cable lines prior to breaking in. Make sure your alarm system has fresh back-up batteries!!!
Just Say NO to Mailbox Smashers!
I do not think a particular young man and his cohorts will be smashing anymore mailboxes in our neighborhood anytime soon. (this incident occured Halloween evening) One intrepid resident made it clear - in no uncertain terms - that the behavior will not be tolerated after he tracked the miscreant down out at South Alabama. Oh yeah, don't mess with Springwood!!!
